The conferenc had two aims: To explore the value and importance of self-assessment for training providers within the current European context of quality assurance for non-formal education and training; and to introduce the RECALL project as a possible quality assurance tool for learning providers. The target group was individuals and institutions responsible for the development of vocational education and training and lifelong learning in Europe, as well as training providers, social partners and quality experts. The conference was attended by a range of participants from across Europe.

Keynote speakers were Mr. Kim Faurschou, director of FACO, International Science Park in Odense, DK, Mr. Peter Lavender, associate director, NIACE, National Institute for Adult Continuing Education, UK, Mr. Arnbjörn Ólafsson, former project manager of RECALL and Mr. Sturla Bjerkaker, secretary general, NAAL - The Norwegian Association for Adult Learning, and steering board member at ICAE - International Counsel for Adult Education. Due to unexpected circumstances Ms. Fernanda Oliveira Reis, European Commision, DG Education and Culture and Dr. Patrick Werquin, a senior economist had to cancel.
